So, were you just as excited as me that that the new COD Black Ops came out and didn’t suck? (COD = Call of Duty for all you noobz.) But wait! Now that you’ve beaten the campaign, leveled up your prestige a few times, and successfully killed a bunch of Nazi-zombies in the White House as Fidel Castro, things seem to be in a lull. Or, perhaps you’re new to first-person shooter games and still can’t quite master moving, looking, aiming, and firing all at once. What do you do now?!
In either case, Dead Ops Arcade mode is the answer you’ve been looking for. Arcade mode is a game type that lets you kill waves of zombies in a 2-D setting similar to a classic arcade game (see below). It is easier to maneuver your character around the screen since the left joystick is for moving and the right is shooting, so looking and aiming is unnecessary. The four-player option allows you and your friends to work together on each level – without dividing the screen up into four tiny boxes in which you can barely see what is going on. Don’t have any friends? They thought of that too because you can play online with four people just as cool as you.
Now that you’re sufficiently interested in playing here’s what you need to do: Go to your PS3 or Xbox (or your PC–does anyone actually use that to play COD these days?) and put in Black Ops. You’ll notice that Arcade mode isn’t there under the ‘Zombie’ section. That’s because Activision decided it would be better to hide it from you. (I know – it didn’t really make sense to me either.)
Follow these steps to unlock Dead Ops Arcade:
You are now ready to play. The Dead Ops Arcade opening screen does take a while to finish loading so be patient and you will get to have all the zombie-killing fun your braaaaaaainnnzzzzz can handle.
